Winter Coat Time!
So the cold’s set in and all you can think about is hot butter rum. We love that butter rum, but the best part about winter is the coats! This is the time of year to go all out with your outerwear because it’s the first thing everyone sees. A cute coat is key. This year the 3/4 lengths are super cute. Get a nice wool one if you’re a professional. Wet Seal’s got a cute jacket that will work for almost any occasion and still be fun. But, if you want to be trendy 24/7, think outside the box. HUGE houndstooth is the must-have print of the season!
Our DIY pick starts off with an old vintage jacket. That’s right - scour all the salvation army’s and goodwill’s before everyone else gets there. Try to get one that is wool, because wool is warm. Then look around for a thick knit zip up mockish turtle neck sweater, with as much color as possible. We are gonna use the sweater as the lining of the body and take the sleeves ends and sew them on the end of each sleeve so that they come out just about 2 inches. Then we are gonna work on the lining, it depends on the coat, but lets say a blazer is what we’ve found, and those are probably the easiest to find. We are gonna take the body of the sweater and sew it so that the zip up top part comes out of the top of the jacket to form a fuzzy collar. And the rest of the sweater will offer more warmth on the front part of the jacket where the usual blazer opening is. Attach a ribbon belt by making belt loops out of the remains of the sleeves and sew on some funky buttons to tie up the look. Throw on your Fabsquad chandelier, drop or dangle earrings and you'll be getting compliments from head to toe! The first person to send us an email with their jacket gets $5 off one of our pairs of fashionable dangle earrings!
